Privacy policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
sideOS is built to keep your work on your Mac. This page lists everything that does leave it, where it goes and why.
The short version
- What you say, what is on your screen, your files, meetings and history stay on your Mac — or go straight from your Mac to the AI provider you picked. We never see them.
- The app sends us one anonymous summary of counters a day, and you can switch it off.
- To sell and activate a licence we keep your email address, payment references from Stripe and an identifier for your Mac.
- If you send us a problem report, we receive what you wrote, your email address and the app's log.
- We do not sell data, show ads, or use anything you do to train AI models.
Who is responsible
sideOS is made by Stockimg AI, Inc., which decides how the data described here is used. Questions and requests go to support@stockimg.ai.
What stays on your Mac
By default, speech recognition and dictation run on macOS’s own speech engines, on your Mac. Meeting recordings and transcripts, memory, the activity history and your settings are stored locally, and your API keys are kept in the macOS Keychain. We hold no copy of any of it.
What goes to your AI provider
When you ask the agent to do something, sideOS sends the request to the model provider you selected — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI — directly from your Mac, with your own API key. Along with your words it sends what the task needs: text read from the screen through macOS accessibility, and a screenshot only when a request cannot be done without one.
Audio leaves your Mac only in modes you turn on yourself: voice chat, the optional cloud dictation engine, or a cloud reply voice, which receives the reply text in order to read it aloud. Connections you add, such as MCP servers, exchange data with those services from your Mac, not through us.
The provider handles all of this under its own privacy policy and your agreement with it. If you run a local model instead, none of it leaves your Mac.
Anonymous usage statistics
Once a day the app sends one summary to sideos.ai. It carries a random install ID created on your Mac, the date, and:
- the app version and build, macOS version, chip, memory size and interface language
- the provider, model, dictation engine and reply voice you have selected
- which macOS permissions are granted
- how many times each mode and tool was used, which errors occurred, and how long runs took
- token counts from your model calls
- which features you use (for example meetings, reminders or MCP), and your progress through the intro tour and the getting-started list
- whether a licence is active
It never contains anything you typed or said, prompts, replies, screen contents, file names or app names; tools from MCP servers are counted only as “mcp”. Your country is looked up when the summary arrives, and your IP address is not stored.
Switch statistics off under Settings › App and nothing more is sent: the install ID and any unsent summaries are deleted, and turning statistics back on creates a new ID.
The install ID is shown under Settings › Support as your support code. We cannot link it to you on our own. If you send it to us, we can look up your counters to help with a problem, or delete everything stored under it.
Buying and activating a licence
When you buy, Stripe collects your payment details, email address and billing details. From Stripe we keep your email address, the Stripe customer and payment references, the amount, currency and billing country, and which button led you to checkout. We use your email address to send your licence key, and to send it again if you ask at sideos.ai/buy/recover.
When you activate sideOS on a Mac, the app sends your licence key, a device identifier, the chip name (for example “M4 Pro”) and the app’s build number. The device identifier is computed on your Mac from its serial number combined with your licence key: the serial number itself is never sent, and the same Mac produces a different identifier under a different key. We record when each Mac was first and last seen, so the one-Mac limit works and you can release a Mac at sideos.ai/licence.
Licence records are kept apart from the usage statistics, and the two are never combined.
Problem reports
If you use Report a problem under Settings › Support, we receive your message and email address, the app’s log for the current session (up to its last 1,500 lines), the app version, macOS version, chip, language, licence status, your country and, if statistics are on, your support code. The report is stored in our database and forwarded to our support inbox so we can reply.
The log is the app’s own diagnostic record. It includes what you asked sideOS to do and text you dictated during that session. You can read it before sending: Open the log is on the same page.
This website
sideos.ai uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. It sets cookies and sends Google information about your visit, such as the pages you view, the site that referred you, your device and browser, and your approximate location. Google’s privacy policy applies to that data.
Separately, when you press a download or buy button we record the time, which button it was, the page that referred you, your country and, for downloads, the version — without your IP address and without cookies. Our download server also records whether each download finished.
Like every web server, our hosting providers receive your IP address in order to deliver pages and files to you.
Who processes data for us
- Stripe — payments and invoices
- Resend — sending licence keys and forwarding problem reports
- Cloudflare — downloads and our database
- Vercel — hosting this website
- Google — website analytics, and the launch film on YouTube (only once you press play)
- Product Hunt — the launch badge image on our pages
Your AI provider is not on this list because it does not work for us: you choose it, and your Mac talks to it directly. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Licence and payment records: for as long as the licence exists, and longer where tax or accounting law requires it.
- Usage statistics: as anonymous daily counts. Send us your support code and we delete yours.
- Problem reports: for as long as we need them to follow up. Ask us and we delete yours.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to support@stockimg.ai. For usage statistics, include your support code — without it we have no way to find your rows. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
sideOS is not intended for children under 16.
